What Happens If a Loan Does Not Reach Its Funding Target

After you commit funds to a listing, the amount is reserved for that project while funding continues. A missed target does not automatically create an active loan. What happens to an investor's money the moment they commit to a loan listing?
Your committed USD amount is allocated to the selected project and is no longer available for another investment. While the pool remains open, that allocation is a reservation for a proposed loan. It does not mean the borrower has received the money.
The investment procedure records the project transaction and provides its identifier. That record establishes the commitment; the project’s funding status establishes whether it has moved beyond collection.
A borrower undergoes review before appearing on the platform, but approval for listing and successful funding are separate events. A reviewed project may still be collecting commitments. Likewise, completing any required identity verification does not mean the pool has closed.
Is committing to a loan listing a binding decision?
Do not assume that a commitment can be reversed simply because the pool remains open. An investor cannot cancel while the pool is open, because the funds are already committed to the smart contract. If you are unsure whether your transaction completed, ask support to check its status before relying on access to that money.
Does interest accrue while a loan is still collecting funding?
Interest does not accrue while the pool remains open. Accrual starts after successful pool closure, when the funds go to work with the borrower. The standard monthly payment schedule follows that transition, rather than the date you clicked Invest.
The minimum investment is USD 100. A listing’s fixed 19-25% APR describes the loan’s annual interest rate. It should not be treated as payment for every day during which your money is committed to fundraising. For your particular project, confirm with the platform the recorded start date and first payment date.
Money reserved in an open funding pool earns no interest during collection; if the project becomes Not Funded, the committed amount is returned automatically to the investor's wallet, but exact refund timing should be confirmed with 8lends support rather than assumed.
What happens if a loan listing does not reach its full funding target?
If a P2P loan is not fully funded, the shortfall alone does not decide the outcome. A pool close to its target can proceed with the amount actually raised. There is no universal acceptance threshold for partial funding in P2P lending, so the shortfall by itself tells you little.
Check the project’s status before treating the shortfall as a cancellation. Confirm with the platform whether collection continues, a revised amount is accepted or the project ends without funding.
When a project reaches the Not Funded stage, the committed amount returns automatically to the investor’s wallet. That outcome is different from a listing that is still collecting money, and it does not set a precise refund deadline for every cancellation scenario.
| State | What it means for your commitment | What to establish |
|---|---|---|
| Committed and collecting | Your amount is allocated; the loan has not started. | Current funding status. |
| Target reached and pool closing | Collection is moving towards funding and disbursement. | Whether the project has reached Funded status. |
| Target not reached | A shortfall may still allow funding at a revised amount. | Whether collection continues, funding proceeds or the project becomes Not Funded. |
| Borrower withdraws the listing | The proposed loan may no longer proceed. | Confirmed closure, return destination and timing. |
| Investor wants to cancel | Completed commitments cannot be cancelled while the pool is open. | Whether the transaction has completed. |
| Funds returned | The committed amount has been returned. | The return record and available wallet balance. |
How long can a loan listing stay open before it closes one way or another?
There is no single collection period that applies to every listing, and a funding deadline on one project does not imply a universal number of days.
Ask support for the deadline applying to your project and whether it can change. The loan’s repayment term is a separate period and should not be used to infer how long fundraising may remain open.
What happens if the investor withdraws a pending commitment, or the borrower withdraws the listing?
An investor’s wish to cancel and a borrower’s withdrawal are separate events. The first concerns access to money already committed; the second concerns whether the proposed loan will proceed. Neither amounts to a completed refund.
If you want to cancel, the open-pool rule does not offer that option. Ask support to clarify your transaction status if necessary. If the borrower withdraws, ask whether the listing is formally closed and how the committed amount will be returned. Closure of a listing and availability of a refund need to be checked separately.
Can an investor cancel a commitment while the listing is still collecting?
No. An investor cannot cancel while the pool remains open. Rejecting an unsigned transaction before committing funds is a different action.
If your transaction status is unclear, ask support to check it. Selling an existing loan participation is a separate operation and should not be confused with reversing a pending commitment.
BuyBack is also a separate mechanism. It concerns an issued loan and credit-related events under its terms; it is not the procedure for returning a commitment to a project that never became an active loan.
Where does reserved money go, and when is it available again?
When a project ends without funding, the committed amount does not remain invested in an active loan. For a Not Funded return, the destination is the investor's wallet. Confirm exact availability and other cancellation scenarios with support; do not assume a platform-balance credit.
Check both the project status and the return record. The public Base transaction history can help verify a recorded operation without registration. It does not create a cancellation right or a refund deadline that the loan terms do not provide.
For questions about a commitment or return, contact 8lends support with the project details and transaction identifier. The platform is run by CLEARCHAIN CORP, registered in British Columbia, Canada, and registered with FINTRAC as a money services business. Maclear AG (Switzerland), a member of PolyReg SRO, has a separate role as the independent Collateral Agent; it does not run the funding and refund process.

Frequently Asked Questions
It is reserved for the selected project while the pool collects funding. A confirmed commitment does not mean the borrower has received the loan. Interest does not accrue during the open collection stage. Check the project’s status alongside your transaction record to distinguish reservation from successful funding.
No, interest does not accrue while the pool remains open. Accrual is tied to successful funding and to the money going to work with the borrower. Confirm with the platform the start date recorded for your project and the first scheduled payment, rather than counting from your commitment date.
A shortfall does not necessarily mean the project will be cancelled: a pool close to its target can proceed at a lower amount. If the project becomes Not Funded, the committed amount returns automatically to your wallet. Confirm the outcome and exact return timing for your particular project.
No. An investor cannot cancel while the pool remains open. Rejecting a transaction before signing is a different action. If your transaction status is unclear, confirm with the platform before relying on a release of funds or a refund date.
The committed amount should not remain invested in a loan that never starts. However, 8lends does not publish a complete borrower-withdrawal procedure or exact refund timing. Confirm with the platform that the listing has been withdrawn, where the amount will return and when it will be available.

Do You Have Any Questions?
All questionsThe platform has been audited by CertiK and Cyberscope, and all transactions are publicly visible on the Base blockchain. Two companies with clear responsibilities stand behind the platform: CLEARCHAIN CORP operates the platform and is registered as a Money Services Business with FINTRAC (Canada), and Maclear AG conducts due diligence and monitors collateral. So the platform is well regulated, transparent and accountable
If the project has BuyBack, the partner buys the loan and returns 100% of the principal once it is overdue for 60 days or more. Without BuyBack, Maclear AG initiates the sale of the collateral, and the proceeds are distributed proportionally among investors. Since launch there have been no defaults
The platform is operated by CLEARCHAIN CORP, registered in Canada as a Money Services Business (MSB) and subject to mandatory AML/CFT compliance requirements under FINTRAC. Settlements are made in USD. The platform is not a CASP, so DAC8 requirements do not apply
Small and medium-sized businesses in developing regions do not have easy access to bank financing and are willing to pay higher rates than businesses in the EU or US
